Technical Support: Counter Overview

<BACK TO MAIN TECHNICAL MENU>

A page counter has been installed which our web hosting customers can use. The purpose of the counter is to indicate to your visitors how popular your web site is. The counter does not generate detailed statistics about who has been accessing your web page.  You should refer to the statistics page under web server in your WEB SITE HOSTING Account for information about such detailed statistics.

Adding the counter using FrontPage and other HTML editors
If you use FrontPage or another HTML editor then simply follow their procedure to add an image to the page, when prompted for the source (path, URL or location) of the image, enter the following -
http://fearless.powerup.com.au/shared_scripts/counter.exe?-s57chevy+vs10005
Substituting the vs10005 for your vs number.

Adding the counter by editing the raw HTML code
If you are experienced at editing raw HTML code, then simply copy and paste the HTML code below -
<IMG SRC= http://fearless.powerup.com.au/shared_scripts/counter.exe?-s57chevy+vs10005>
Substituting the vs10005 for your vs number.

Having multiple unique counters

If you want to use more than one counter on your web site, for different pages or whatever, you can.  But you need to ensure that each counter is unique, while still remaining exclusive to your site.  For example, you could simply add a letter after your vs number -

  • counter.exe?-s57chevy+vs10005a

  • counter.exe?-s57chevy+vs10005b

  • counter.exe?-s57chevy+vs10005c

Or perhaps by using the page names or paths -

  • counter.exe?-s57chevy+vs10005a-index.htm

  • counter.exe?-s57chevy+vs10005a-contact.htm

  • counter.exe?-s57chevy+vs10005a-admin/admin.htm

Substituting the vs10005 for your vs number. You can use -, _, / or \ in the name or path string, but do not use +.

Re-setting the counter

The counter will click over by one number each time the page in which it is embedded is loaded.

If you require the counter to be set to a particular value, or re-set back to zero, simply log a job in Mission Control with your instruction, and the URL of the counter or the page it is on.

When pasting the counter URL in the logged job don't encase it with the <IMG SRC=   > HTML tags.

Counter styles

Counter Style -s57chevyThere are many different counter styles to choose from, the example we use here is -s57chevy. To see samples of other available styles visit the Counter Style Page.  There are also more Advance Configurations for the counter.

Change the vs10005
You must change the vs10005 to your own vs number, if you want the counter to accurately and exclusively reflect the hits of your web site page(s).

Close all HTML tags
If you are editing the raw HTML code directly, ensure you close all HTML tags.  Failure to do so could corrupt the counter, ie <IMG SRC= http://fearless.powerup.com.au/shared_scripts/counter.exe?-s57chevy+vs10005>
don't forget the > and if you used " to encase the SRC="path", make sure you close the path with the ".
