Getting Started
When you obtain your WEB SITE HOSTING Account, you will receive information similar to the following:

Company: ACME Pty Ltd
Username: vs10001
Password: sdsd23se
IP Address: www.yourdomain.com.au

You need this information in order to upload your files to your web host or enter your WEB SITE HOSTING Account.

Uploading Files
The three most common ways to place your web pages on the xcelNet servers are as follows -

Use FrontPage to Edit the Site directly

In order to use FrontPage to edit and/or upload your web pages, you must ensure that FrontPage server extensions are installed on your web server (usually done already for you by default).  However, if for some reason it isn't, you do this by using your WEB SITE HOSTING Account and logging a job or configuring web server set-up.

  1. Start FrontPage.
  2. If you are not in the "Getting Stated" dialog box click on 'File' to open the pull-down menu.
  3. Click on 'Open FrontPage Web'.
  4. Click the "More Webs" button.
  5. In "Select a Web server or disk location" type in your www.domainname.com.au or Temporary Domain Name of your site.
  6. Click on the "List Webs" button.  If you receive an error "The server could not complete your request  ... " it is likely that FrontPage extensions have not been installed on your server.
  7. If no error message is displayed, you should find <root web> listed.
  8. Highlight (by clicking once) and click on OK.
  9. At the "Name and Password Required" dialog box type the username and password we gave you.  These are case sensitive and need to be typed exactly as we provided them.

Use FrontPage to Publish your web pages on your Personal Web Server

  1. Open the web you have created.
  2. Click on 'File' on the pull down menu.
  3. Click on 'Publish FrontPage Web'.
  4. Locate the "Please specify location" dialog box.
  5. Type in http:// and then the www.dominname.com.au or temporary domain name we have sent you.

It is best not to use the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard as this uses FTP to transfer the web you have created on your FrontPage Personal Web Server and any of the specific FrontPage components you have used on your web will more than likely not work on your new site.

Upload your files using FTP

  1. Open your FTP program
  2. In the server name field type the IP address or temporary domain name we have sent you
  3. In the username field type in the username we have sent you
  4. In the password field, use the password we have sent you
  5. There is no need to set local or remote directories.
  6. When you are connected, find the files you want to upload on your local system and copy them into the root directory of your xcelNet web server.
